Prep Time: 15 minutes
Chill Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

1 (10-ounce) log fresh goat cheese (chèvre), softened
1/2 cup food-safe edible flowers, stems removed, such as pansies, violas, chive flowers, calendula petals, or nasturtiums
2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh herbs, such as parsley, chives, dill, thyme, or tarragon
Pinch of flaky sea salt, plus more for garnish
2 to 3 tablespoons wildflower honey or another light floral honey, such as orange blossom or acacia
Assorted crackers, crostini, sliced baguette, or fresh berries, for serving

Directions

Step 1: Press the Edible Flowers

For a flatter, more polished appearance, arrange the edible flowers between two sheets of parchment paper or wax paper. Place a few heavy books on top and press the flowers for at least 30 minutes.

This optional step helps the flowers adhere more evenly to the goat cheese and creates a smooth, beautiful presentation.

Step 2: Mix the Goat Cheese

Place the softened goat cheese in a small bowl. Add the chopped fresh herbs and a pinch of flaky sea salt.

Stir until the cheese is smooth and the herbs are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

Step 3: Reshape the Cheese Log

Transfer the herb cheese mixture to a sheet of plastic wrap. Use the plastic wrap to shape the cheese back into a compact, evenly formed log.

Step 4: Arrange the Flowers

Spread the pressed edible flowers across a clean work surface, creating a rectangle slightly larger than the cheese log. Arrange the colors and varieties evenly so the finished log has flowers covering every side.

Step 5: Coat the Cheese Log

Place the goat cheese log at one end of the arranged flowers. Gently roll the cheese over the flowers, pressing lightly as you work to help the petals adhere.

Continue rolling until the goat cheese is evenly decorated with edible flowers.

Step 6: Chill the Cheese

Wrap the decorated cheese log tightly in plastic wrap, twisting the ends to secure it.

Place the wrapped cheese in the refrigerator and chill for at least 30 minutes. For a firmer texture and more developed herb flavor, refrigerate it for several hours or overnight.

Step 7: Garnish and Serve

Carefully unwrap the chilled cheese log and transfer it to a serving platter.

Drizzle generously with wildflower honey and finish with a light sprinkle of flaky sea salt.

Garnish with additional edible flowers, if desired. Serve immediately with crackers, crostini, sliced baguette, fresh berries, or a combination of your favorite accompaniments.

Notes

Use only food-safe edible flowers purchased from a trusted source or grown specifically for culinary use. Never use flowers that may have been exposed to pesticides, herbicides, roadside pollution, or other unsafe chemicals.

Confirm that every flower variety is edible before using it. Flowers sold for bouquets and decorative arrangements are not necessarily safe to eat.

Gently rinse the flowers if needed and allow them to dry completely before pressing or placing them on the cheese. Excess moisture may prevent the petals from adhering properly.

Allow the goat cheese to soften at room temperature before mixing. Softened cheese is easier to blend with the herbs and reshape into a smooth log.

Choose one herb combination that complements your occasion. Dill and chives create a fresh spring flavor, while thyme and tarragon provide a more aromatic, sophisticated note.

This edible flower goat cheese log can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance. Keep it tightly wrapped and refrigerated until you are ready to garnish and serve it.

Add the honey immediately before serving to preserve the cheese log’s colorful appearance and prevent the flower petals from becoming overly moist.

For the best texture and flavor, let the chilled cheese log stand at room temperature for about 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Do not leave it unrefrigerated for an extended period.

Refrigerate leftovers promptly in an airtight container and enjoy them as soon as possible for the freshest flavor and appearance.
