Yield
About 1 cup
Ingredients
¾ cup passion fruit juice or passion fruit pulp
¼ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
2 tablespoons Chinola liqueur
Preparation
Step 1: Combine the Ingredients
In a small saucepan, combine the passion fruit juice or pulp, granulated sugar, freshly squeezed orange juice, and Chinola liqueur. Stir well to evenly distribute the sugar.
Step 2: Cook the Sauce
Place the saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil while stirring frequently. Continue cooking for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the sugar has completely dissolved and the sauce has reduced slightly.
Step 3: Thicken the Mixture
Allow the sauce to simmer gently, stirring occasionally. The sauce should lightly coat the back of a spoon when ready. Keep in mind that it will continue to thicken slightly as it cools.
Step 4: Cool the Sauce
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the sauce cool for several minutes at room temperature.
Step 5: Chill Until Ready to Serve
Transfer the cooled sauce to a clean mason jar or airtight container. Refrigerate until thoroughly chilled and ready to use.
Notes
For a smoother sauce, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve before chilling.
If you enjoy the texture of passion fruit seeds, leave them in the sauce for added visual appeal and crunch.
Store the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
This sauce pairs beautifully with passion fruit mousse, cheesecake, panna cotta, pound cake, yogurt, ice cream, and fresh tropical fruit.
For a non-alcoholic version, replace the Chinola liqueur with additional orange juice or passion fruit juice.
