Prep Time: 20 minutes
Chill Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Yield: 12 to 18 chocolate-covered strawberries
Ingredients
For the Chocolate-Covered Strawberries
1 pound fresh strawberries
8 ounces dark, milk, semi-sweet, or white chocolate
½ teaspoon coconut oil, optional
Optional Toppings
2 tablespoons chopped nuts
2 tablespoons shredded coconut
2 tablespoons crushed freeze-dried strawberries or raspberries
2 tablespoons sprinkles
Additional melted chocolate for drizzling
Directions
Step 1: Prepare the Strawberries
Wash the strawberries thoroughly, then dry them completely with paper towels.
Allow them to air-dry for several minutes if necessary. The berries must be free from moisture so the melted chocolate adheres properly.
Step 2: Prepare the Work Surface
Line a baking sheet, tray, or large plate with parchment paper. Arrange the toppings in small bowls so they are ready to use before the chocolate begins to set.
Step 3: Melt the Chocolate
Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave it in short intervals, stirring after each interval, until smooth and glossy.
Alternatively, melt the chocolate gently in a double boiler, stirring frequently. If desired, stir in the coconut oil to create a thinner, shinier coating.
Step 4: Dip the Strawberries
Hold one strawberry by its stem or leafy top and dip it into the melted chocolate.
Turn the berry gently to coat most of its surface, leaving a small portion exposed near the top.
Lift the strawberry from the chocolate and allow the excess coating to drip back into the bowl.
Step 5: Add the Toppings
Place the dipped strawberry on the prepared parchment paper. Immediately decorate it with chopped nuts, shredded coconut, crushed freeze-dried fruit, or sprinkles before the chocolate begins to set.
Repeat the dipping and decorating process with the remaining strawberries.
Step 6: Set the Chocolate
Allow the strawberries to rest at room temperature until the chocolate hardens. For faster results, refrigerate them for 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 7: Add a Chocolate Drizzle
For a decorative finish, drizzle additional melted chocolate over the coated strawberries. Try white chocolate over dark chocolate or dark chocolate over white chocolate for an attractive contrast.
Allow the drizzle to set completely before serving.
Step 8: Serve
Arrange the chocolate-covered strawberries on a serving platter and enjoy them as soon as possible for the freshest flavor and texture.
Notes
Choose ripe, firm strawberries without bruises or soft spots. Strawberries with fresh green leaves create the most attractive presentation.
Dry the strawberries thoroughly before dipping. Even a small amount of moisture can cause the melted chocolate to seize or prevent it from adhering evenly.
High-quality chocolate produces the best flavor, texture, and appearance.
Coconut oil is optional, but it can help create a smoother, shinier chocolate coating.
Prepare all toppings before melting the chocolate so they can be added while the coating is still wet.
Serve the strawberries on a dessert board with fresh fruit, cookies, or candies. They also pair beautifully with coffee, hot chocolate, sparkling beverages, or champagne.
Must be 21 years of age or older to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages. Please drink responsibly.
For gifting, arrange the strawberries in a decorative box or place each one in an individual paper liner.
Chocolate-covered strawberries are best enjoyed on the day they are prepared. Store them loosely covered in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
Avoid storing the strawberries in an airtight container because trapped moisture can create condensation on the chocolate.
Do not freeze chocolate-covered strawberries. Freezing and thawing can make the fruit soft and watery.
