Gluten-Free Squash Blossom Pizza with Ricotta and Honey Recipe

Gluten-Free Squash Blossom Pizza with Ricotta and Honey Recipe

Make a gluten-free squash blossom pizza with creamy ricotta, savory Pecorino Romano, delicate edible flowers, and a sweet honey drizzle.

This Gluten-Free Squash Blossom Pizza with Ricotta and Honey Recipe combines creamy cheese, delicate edible flowers, and a touch of sweetness on a crisp gluten-free crust. The colorful blossoms create an elegant seasonal pizza that looks impressive but requires only a few minutes of preparation.

Whole-milk ricotta creates a rich, creamy base, while Pecorino Romano contributes a pleasantly salty bite. Fresh garlic and black pepper add depth without overpowering the mild squash blossoms. A drizzle of honey balances the savory flavors and gives every slice a delicious sweet and salty finish.

Using a homemade or store-bought gluten-free pizza crust keeps this recipe simple enough for a weeknight meal. Serve it for a summer lunch, a light dinner, or an elegant garden-inspired gathering. Pair it with a fresh green salad for a complete seasonal meal.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 8 to 10 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
Yield: 4 to 6 servings

Ingredients

1 gluten-free pizza crust, homemade or store-bought, 12 to 16 inches
Olive oil spray
1 1/2 cups whole-milk ricotta cheese
1/2 cup shredded Pecorino Romano cheese, divided
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 medium squash blossoms, stems removed and blossoms gently opened flat
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon sea salt
Edible flower sprinkles, for garnish

Directions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat the oven to 500°F. Prepare the gluten-free pizza crust according to its package directions if required.

Step 2: Make the Ricotta Mixture

In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, half of the Pecorino Romano cheese, minced garlic, and black pepper. Stir until smooth and creamy.

Step 3: Assemble the Pizza

Spread the ricotta mixture evenly over the gluten-free pizza crust, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edge.

Arrange the squash blossoms over the ricotta mixture. Gently open each blossom so it lies flat, then lightly coat the blossoms with olive oil spray.

Step 4: Bake the Pizza

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the crust is crisp and golden, the cheese is hot, and the squash blossoms are tender and lightly wilted.

Step 5: Add the Finishing Touches

Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately drizzle it with the honey.

Sprinkle the remaining Pecorino Romano cheese and sea salt over the top. Garnish with edible flower sprinkles.

Step 6: Slice and Serve

Slice the pizza and serve it immediately while warm.

Notes

Fresh squash blossoms are delicate. Handle them gently and use them as soon as possible after harvesting or purchasing.

Inspect the blossoms carefully and gently remove any dirt or insects before using them. Make sure the blossoms are intended for culinary use and have not been treated with chemicals that are unsafe for consumption.

A high-quality gluten-free pizza crust provides the best texture while keeping preparation simple. Follow any package instructions for thawing or pre-baking the crust.

Check the labels on the pizza crust, olive oil spray, Pecorino Romano cheese, honey, and edible flower sprinkles to confirm they meet your gluten-free needs. Prevent cross-contact when preparing this recipe for someone with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity.

Use edible flower sprinkles specifically produced and labeled for culinary use. Decorative flowers sold by florists or garden centers may not be safe to eat.

For extra flavor, drizzle the finished pizza with a high-quality wildflower honey just before serving.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Reheat them in a 375°F oven until warmed through and the crust is crisp again.
