Servings

Approximately 40 to 50 heart candies

Ingredients

24 ounces gluten-free white candy melts or high-quality white chocolate, divided
Gel food coloring in pink, red, and purple (oil-based or candy coloring)
1 tablespoon refined coconut oil or vegetable shortening (if needed for smoother melting)
½ cup gluten-free Valentine’s sprinkles or nonpareils (verify they are labeled gluten-free)
Silicone heart candy mold

Directions

Step 1: Prepare the Candy Mold

Clean and thoroughly dry the silicone heart mold. Place it on a small baking sheet or cutting board so it is easy to transfer to the refrigerator.

Step 2: Melt the Candy

Melt the white candy melts in separate microwave-safe bowls in 20-second intervals, stirring after each interval until smooth. If the candy seems too thick, stir in a small amount of refined coconut oil or vegetable shortening.

Step 3: Color the Candy

Leave one portion white. Tint the remaining portions with pink, red, and purple candy coloring until the desired shades are achieved. Stir until each color is completely smooth.

Step 4: Fill the Molds

Spoon or pipe the colored candy into the heart molds. For a marbled look, lightly swirl two colors together with a toothpick before they begin to set.

Gently tap the mold on the counter several times to remove any trapped air bubbles.

Step 5: Decorate

Immediately sprinkle the tops generously with the gluten-free Valentine’s nonpareils while the candy is still wet so they adhere well.

Step 6: Chill

Refrigerate the mold for 20 to 30 minutes, or until the candies are completely firm.

Step 7: Remove and Serve

Carefully pop each heart candy out of the silicone mold. Store in an airtight container until ready to serve.

Notes

Use only candy coloring or oil-based food coloring. Water-based food coloring can cause melted chocolate to seize.

Always verify that both the candy melts and sprinkles are labeled gluten-free, since decorations can vary by manufacturer.

For extra flavor, add ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract made specifically for candy or a few drops of peppermint, strawberry, raspberry, or cherry candy flavoring.

Store the candies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, or refrigerate for up to 1 month.

These candies make wonderful Valentine’s Day gifts when packaged in decorative treat bags or gift boxes.
